Laufey’s new single, “From The Start,” is finally here.
Laufey announced the release of the single on her Instagram account last week, receiving positive messages from fans excited to hear more of her unique modern jazz style.
Since then, Laufey has been promoting her song through lip-syncing and play-along videos on her Tik Tok, Instagram and Youtube accounts, where she has garnered a large following over quarantine.
This release will be the first original single, except recordings of performances with the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra, since the winter holiday season of 2022.
“From The Start,” like Laufey’s other songs, discusses similar romance topics; in this instance, she describes a one-sided love.
“Don’t you dare look at me that way
I don’t need reminders of how you don’t feel the same
Oh, the burning pain
Listening to you harp about some new soulmate”
“Unrequitеd, terrifying
Love is driving me a bit insane
Have to get this off my chest, I’m telling you today”
Laufey often sings from experience with songs like “Beautiful Stranger,” describing her experience making eye contact with a stranger on the train. Her use of relatable life experiences makes her lyrics even more impactful for her listeners.
